FAIRWAY TO HEAVEN: DFM SPONSORS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENTS

Birdies for a cure, anyone?

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi (DFM) will host a spree of golf tournaments starting in May that will benefit the DFM's mission of providing care to all 346,500 Mississippians with diabetes.

On May 12, the DFM will host its annual Bulldog Scramble in Choctaw. Friday, May 16 is the date for the Rebel Classic in Oxford, and then following in suit, of course, is the Eagle Scramble in Hattiesburg on May 19. Concluding the benefit tee-offs will be the Legislative Shoot-Out on June 2 in Jackson.

"The golf tournaments are an excellent way to support the Diabetes Foundation as well as the thousands of Mississippians who rely on the DFM for help each year," said Mary Fortune, DFM executive vice president. "As Mississippi's primary diabetes-assistance organization, the DFM sends children to diabetes camp, empowers senior citizens to take charge of their diabetes, provides schools and daycare centers around the state with diabetes emergency kits and sponsors educational seminars for our state's health-care providers and diabetes patients. Our golf tournaments support these efforts and directly affect the lives of so many individuals living with diabetes."

The Mississippi State Sylvester Croom Bulldog Scramble golf tournament on Monday, May 12, will be held at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Course in Choctaw. Named as one of the Top 75 Golf Resorts in America by Golf Digest, this course offers plenty of challenges for even the most experienced golfers. Sylvester Croom, head football coach at Mississippi State University, and Miko Beasley Denson of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will be among the golfers teeing off at 1 p.m. at the Bulldog Scramble.

With a 10 a.m. shotgun time, the first-ever Rebel Classic golf tournament will be held at the Country Club of Oxford on Friday, May 16. Coach Houston Nutt, head Ole Miss football coach, will be making an appearance at the Rebel Classic, an opportunity for Ole Miss fans to meet and greet their new football coach. Jim Fazio, an award-winning designer of many notable courses, including Donald Trump's International Golf Club and the celebrated Jupiter Hills Golf Club in South Florida, designed the course.

The third-annual Eagle Scramble golf tournament will be held Monday, May 19 at the Canebrake Country Club. The June 2 Legislative Shoot-Out golf tournament will be held at the Reunion Golf & Country Club in Madison, starting at 1 p.m. More details on these two golf tournaments will be announced at a later time.
