REBEL CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT TAKES SWING AT DIABETES

Oxford– Oxford is known for its rich history, and on Friday, May 16, the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi will make history when it sponsors the inaugural Rebel Classic Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Oxford.

“Oxford has been tremendously supportive of the Diabetes Foundation and its mission of serving all Mississippians whose lives have been touched by diabetes,” said Meg Frazier, Regional Manager. “This is our first golf tournament in Oxford, and it’s already shaping up to be extremely successful! Whether it’s our Walk for Diabetes in the fall or our Rebel Classic Golf Tournament in the spring, the entire community of Oxford responds with generosity and excitement year round!”

The Rebel Classic Golf Tournament will benefit the Diabetes Foundation’s programs and services geared toward improving the lives of all Mississippians with diabetes– from children to seniors. Every dollar raised will stay in the state to fund the mission of the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.

With a 9 a.m. registration and a 10 a.m. shotgun start, the tournament will also provide Ole Miss football enthusiasts with an opportunity to meet and greet their new head football coach, Houston Nutt.

Sims Metal Management will be the tournament’s presenting sponsor. Other corporate sponsors include Newk’s and Budweiser.

The Rebel Classic will be a four-person scramble, and there will be door prizes and team prizes awarded to low-net categories. Individual prizes will also be awarded for longest drive, longest putt and for those closest to the pin on specified holes.

Jim Fazio, an award-winning designer of many notable courses, including Donald Trump’s International Golf Club and the celebrated Jupiter Hills Golf Club in South Florida, designed the course.

“Here’s your chance to putt with a purpose and help raise money and awareness for a very worthy cause –diabetes– in the same stroke!” said Frazier. “Join the Diabetes Foundation and Coach Nutt on May 16 for a day of great food, great fun and great golf– this is one tournament you do not want to miss!”

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi is the state’s only nonprofit health organization that provides diabetes research, information, patient services and advocacy, and its mission is to provide hope through research, programs and service to the 346,500 Mississippians with diabetes. Every dollar raised by the Foundation stays in the state to support these efforts. In addition, 92 cents of every dollar raised goes towards the organization’s charitable purposes. The Diabetes Foundation is the one diabetes organization totally dedicated to all Mississippians– from children to seniors– who live with diabetes.
