The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi is the state's premier nonprofit health organization dedicated to providing hope through research, programs and service to the 372,000 Mississippians with diabetes. The DFM is the one diabetes organization totally dedicated to all Mississippians living with diabetes, from our children to our seniors. One hundred percent of the funds raised by the Foundation stay in the state, and eighty-nine cents of every dollar raised goes towards the Foundation's charitable purposes.
The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi
· provides diabetes education and awareness programs at Mississippi schools, community and senior centers
· distributes life-saving diabetes supplies to needy Mississippians
· sends children with diabetes and their families to Camp Kandu
· visits newly diagnosed children in the hospital to bring lots of information and a backpack full of starter supplies
· conducts health screenings and health fairs all over the Magnolia State
· funds research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
We are Mississippi's Diabetes Team working for all Mississippians. We were chartered in Mississippi in 1965 as the Diabetes Association of Mississippi by a group of local Mississippi physicians. For the next 25 years, the DFM was the American Diabetes Association Mississippi affiliate until 1998. February 10, 1998, the Board of Directors voted to become the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi. The Foundation has been able to expand our services to the grassroots level. The Foundation is better able to serve Mississippians with diabetes and provide more programs statewide and research at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
