Camp Kandu

They come from all over the Magnolia State to participate in arts and crafts, relay races, campfire songs and hula-hoop contests, and like little ants scurrying up a hillside toward a picnic blanket, they come hungry to form friendships that will last a lifetime. More importantly, though, they come together to learn more about diabetes– a disease that unites them all.

Camp Kandu, a camp that is held twice a year at the Twin Lakes Conference Center in Florence, Miss., offers children with diabetes, as well as their parents, friends and siblings, the opportunity to have fun while learning to take charge of diabetes.

Participants take karate lessons, make arts and crafts projects, tie-dye T-shirts and play games, all the while learning about the importance of meal planning, exercising regularly and monitoring blood-glucose levels.

The camp is held each year in the spring and in the fall. Please call the DFM at 1-877-DFM-CURE to find out about specific dates and other details.
