Nationally recognized diabetes experts will take center stage January 30, at New Horizons in Diabetes Care: Super Conference 2010 at the Marriott Hotel in Jackson.
This Super Conference offers something for all:
- Are you parenting a child with type 1 diabetes? Listen to Dr. Stephen Ponder, pediatric endocrinologist, Director of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, and a person living with type 1 himself. In a format that provides time for you to ask your burning questions, Dr. Ponder will speak out on diabetes myths and how to cope with highs and lows.
- Are you an adult with type 1 diabetes? Come join Joe Solowiejczyk, RN, MSW, CDE, someone who has lived with type 1 diabetes for 45-plus years, as he shares an interactive session with insights on the emotional impact of living with diabetes.
- Are you someone with or at risk for type 2 diabetes? Listen as Sheila Harmon, RN, MSN, CNS, CDE, empowers you with the knowledge to prevent, control and slow the progression of type 2 diabetes.
Keynote speakers for the 2010 Super Conference are Ann Albright, PhD, RD, Director of the Division of Diabetes Translation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Warren Jones, MD, FAAFP, Executive Director of the Mississippi Institute for the Improvement of Geographic Minority Health. Other noted speakers include Herman Taylor, MD, MPH, Principal Investigator for the Jackson Heart Study, who will share the secrets of “getting to the heart of diabetes,” and Della Matheson, RN, CDE, Trial Coordinator for the University of Miami Clinical Center for Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, who will provide a realistic discussion on the latest in diabetes research.
Curious about what people with diabetes can eat? Chef Luis Bruno, former Executive Chef at the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion, also living with type 2 diabetes, will prepare healthy and delicious dishes during his entertaining cooking demonstration.
Want to know more about the ever-popular diabetic alert dogs? You can only imagine how fascinating Abi Thornton and her diabetic alert dog will be as you hear her story about how life has changed with her best friend and lifesaver, Mr. Darcy, during a live demonstration.
Representatives from medical and pharmaceutical companies will showcase the latest diabetes-management products. Check with them and see if you are up to date!
