Senior Day at Belk
Passing out materials and helping with glucose screenings if qualified.

Answering the phone, simple data entry, filling information packets for mailing, general office duties.
It's Not a Sweet Subject
(For health-care professionals interested in volunteering) - This is an in-service program that is offered to public and private schools throughout the state. It requires some knowledge of diabetes, but is a rather simple presentation. We provide materials to distribute to the teachers. The program is usually held during the staff meeting at the school either before school or right after school is dismissed.
Health Fairs
Frequently, we are asked to exhibit at health fairs throughout the state. We always need volunteers to operate the exhibit and pass out information during these events. Sometimes we are requested to help with blood-glucose screenings, and volunteers can be trained to use the glucometer (device that measures blood sugars).
National Diabetes Month
November is National Diabetes Month and the DFM distributes packets of information to the hospitals, diabetes educators and physicians' offices throughout the state. We need help in assembling these packets, and mailing and delivering this important information during October.
We Care 2
This is a program to reach out to newly diagnosed children and adolescents and their families. The opportunities available for this program include assembling backpacks of information and (for parents of children with diabetes) meeting with children and their families and making phone calls to follow-up with families throughout the year.
Camp Kandu
Camp Kandu is a weekend camp for children with diabetes and their families at Twin Lakes in Florence, Mississippi - once in the fall and once in the spring. Volunteers are needed on the camp committee to mail letters and camp applications, as well as participate in the day of camp activities.
Mississippi's Walk for Diabetes
The DFM sponsors walks to raise money for diabetes programs in Vicksburg, Jackson, Hattiesburg, Meridian, Oxford, Columbus and McComb each year. Volunteers always are needed to mail walk packets, hang posters around town, organize walk teams and participate in food and beverage service, rest stops and registration on the day of the walks.
Golf Tournaments
The DFM sponsors several golf tournaments each year around the state. Volunteers are needed to serve on the committee, help with mailings and assist with registration at the tournaments.
Fashion Show
The DFM hosts a fashion show each year at the Country Club of Jackson to benefit our programs. Volunteers are needed to help with mailings and assist with registration and ticket sales.
Bread Day
The DFM partners with Great Harvest Bread Company in Jackson to raise money for our programs each year. Proceeds from all bread sold on one Saturday are donated to the DFM, so volunteers are needed to assist with baking and sales that day.
Car For A Cure Raffle
Patty Peck Honda of Ridgeland donates a car for a cure each year to the DFM. Volunteers are always needed to assist with raffle ticket sales.
